Nolan-Thomas offices are A little out of the
way, but worth the search.
We've stopped giving
directions over the phone on how to get to our office. Now we just send
"THE MAP". Nolan-Thomas's office is located just south of the Fresno
Yosemite Airport. The company bought a former electrical manufacturing
building in 1999 but didn't occupy it until 2001. Company vice
president Wayne Scholes explained that, "We were just to busy to do the
improvements necessary for us to move in. We decided that we would
start and do the work when we had time. It took us two years to
complete, but the result was well worth the wait."

The floor plan was
designed by Gary Vigen of Vigen and Associates, while the interior
finishes were done by Suzanne Byrnes of Facility Design.
The office has a very
modern look with a striking entryway that leads into the main
conference room. The huge, seven by twelve foot, conference table is
made with one inch polished granite supplied by Inter-Tile Co. and
looks out into the indoor atrium with fountain designed by Landscape
Architect Richard Cole. Framing the entrance into the conference room
area are two poured-in-place concrete walls that also act as partitions
to adjacent offices and work areas.
Include is an area for
subcontractors and suppliers to review plans comfortably. Along with
offices for the administrative and estimating staff, there are also
dedicated offices for the field management personnel. David Robertson,
company president, said it was very important for there to be a, "real
office for the field superintendents to be able to come in and conduct
business off the job site and feel that they are an intricate part of
the company".
Other areas include
mezzanine storage, a shop, and a full woodworking shop area. This
enables our own forces to do custom work that we might otherwise have
subcontracted out.
All of the subcontract
work and material supplied for the Nolan-Thomas offices was done by
local businesses.

The office has also had
another benefit, that of a place to get to know those in our industry
and community better. On a regular basis we try to have clients,
architects, subcontractors and suppliers over for a Friday lunch. Its
been a great way of getting to know the people with whom we do business
and those we would like to do business with.
